KEY POINTS:
BRISBANE - Australia's Bureau of Meteorology is warning of further storms across Queensland's southeast late today.
Wild storms lashed the region yesterday evening, dragging down powerlines and leaving about 9000 homes in Brisbane and the Gold Coast without electricity.
A State Emergency Services spokesman said the service received numerous calls for assistance as the storms struck between 6pm and 7.30pm (AEST).
Suburbs in Brisbane's west, including Moggill, Kenmore, Forest Lake, Karana Downs, Camira and Redbank Plains were the worst effected.
A Bureau of Meteorology forecaster said while the storms were intense in parts, they were common over the warmer months.
"They were severe but they were on the low end of severe, they were just your normal type of summer storm," he said.
About 10-15mm of rain was recorded in Brisbane's south.
He said further storms were expected to hit between Bundaberg and northern NSW this afternoon or this evening.
