The heat wave enveloping southwest Queensland's channel country again pushed the mercury to new highs, with Thargomindah enduring a record 48.5C on Saturday.
A severe fire danger has been declared for the channel country.
Hot dry conditions combined with overgrown bush have helped fuel fires, with about 34 burning across the state.
Severe thunderstorms have been forecast for parts of the state's northwest, central west and southeast, including Camooweal, Boulia, Dajarra, Warwick, Boonah and Tambo on Saturday afternoon.
