A Queensland senior constable could face disciplinary action after being served with an infringement notice over the killing of more than 20 kangaroos on a southeast Queensland property.

Horse riders stumbled on the carcasses of the roos on a property at Booral, near Hervey Bay, last month.

Some joeys were shot at point-blank range, and only one of the three young that survived the shooting could be saved.

Kangaroos are protected animals and it is an offence to kill one without a permit, and carries fines of up to $10,000 per roo.

The 42-year-old man from the north coast region has been issued with an infringement notice for contravening the Nature Conservation Act, police say.

He will also face the police disciplinary process, police say.

A 16-year-old boy has also been charged with the same offence but is being dealt with under Youth Justice Act.
