The long-running feud between dogs and meter readers in Queensland could leave some customers with a bite to the hip pocket, an electricity retailer says.
Ergon Energy says it's often not informed that residents own dogs, and that means meters can't be read.
Ergon Regional Services Manager Geoff Bowes says customers who do not have their meters read will have a bill based on the same quarter of the previous year.
"But if you have been using more, your catch-up bill next quarter when actual consumption is calculated can be significantly higher," he says.
Mr Bowes says dogs have attacked 25 meter readers across Queensland so far this year.
