Quake measuring 4.7 hits near Taupo

The central North Island was today jolted by an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale.

The tremor that struck at 4.49pm was centred 50km east of Taupo at a depth of 70km, GNS Science reported.

It would have been felt in the central North Island, GNS said.
