An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale has killed at least eight people in northern Chile.
Chilean Interior Minister Jorge Correa warned that the casualty toll could rise.
The quake struck at 10.44am yesterday and was centred 115km northeast of the coastal city of Iquique in the Atacama desert, said radio reports.
