WASHINGTON (AP) The leader of the U.S. House of Representatives says he feels insulted by an opinion piece written by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The article by Putin appeared Thursday in The New York Times. Putin chides Americans for seeing themselves as "exceptional."
Putin also warns that a U.S. strike against Syria because of chemical weapons use could unleash new terrorist attacks. Putin says, quote, "there is every reason to believe" the weapons were used by those opposed to Syrian President Bashar Assad and not Assad's military.
Speaker John Boehner offers no specifics about what angers him in Putin's article. The speaker told reporters Thursday he may have said too much, but, quote, "You got the truth."
Boehner has supported President Barack Obama's call for military action against Syria.
