SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) Puerto Rico's justice secretary has resigned a day after opposition legislators filed an ethics complaint against him.
Luis Sanchez Betances was being investigated for going to a police station to visit a former law firm partner who had been arrested for alleged drunk driving. Several government officials criticized Sanchez's actions and demanded he step down.
Sanchez said in a statement Wednesday that his resignation was not an admission of guilt and that he feels he did not violate any ethical codes or do anything illegal.
Police have said that 66-year-old Jaime Sifre Rodriguez was arrested Friday after a test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.21 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
Sanchez had served as justice secretary since February.
