SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) A Puerto Rico police officer has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a man who ran a stop sign.
The island's Justice Department said in a statement Friday that Eric Rivas shot and injured Randy Colon after he ran a stop sign and did not follow the officer's orders to pull over.
Rivas told authorities that Colon had opened fire, but prosecutors say the victim did not have a weapon on him.
Rivas is being held on a $65,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Oct. 14.
The incident occurred last month in Ponce, Puerto Rico's second largest city.
