SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) Fifteen correction officials in Puerto Rico have been disciplined after authorities say they beat at least 13 inmates without justification earlier this year.
Corrections Secretary Jose Negron told reporters Friday that 12 officials received dismissal letters and that a sergeant and two other officials have been temporarily suspended.
He said the investigation is ongoing.
Prosecutors with the island's Justice Department, meanwhile, said they expect to file assault and weapon violation charges against at least 10 officials next week.
The incident occurred in March at a maximum security prison in the north municipality of Bayamon.
