Prince Harry is wrapping up a weeklong visit to the United States in the affluent New York City suburb of Greenwich, Connecticut, where he is playing in a polo match at a club with a history of hosting royal visitors.
The prince was to compete Wednesday (local time) at the Greenwich Polo Club to benefit Sentebale, the charity he co-founded to help poor children and AIDS orphans in the small African nation of Lesotho. About 30 miles from New York, Greenwich ranks among the wealthiest towns in America.
Before the match, Prince Harry took a walk across the polo field, wearing a blue blazer and white shirt with no tie. An invitation-only crowd of about 400 people was expected. Among them, supermodel Karolina Kurkova and fashion designers Jason Wu and Valentino posed for pictures on a red carpet at the club on their way to lunch with the prince.
"Is the sun coming out?' Kurkova asked as she posed in a light rain.
Greenwich is home to many celebrities and hardly unaccustomed to fanfare. But for some, the royal visit of the 28-year-old prince was still cause for celebration.
