Bangladesh postponed this month's elections after President Iajuddin Ahmed quit as head of the caretaker Government in an attempt to halt the pre-election violence in which 45 people have died.
His resignation followed the declaration of a state of emergency.
An alliance headed by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had vowed to boycott the polls, saying there was no chance they would be free and impartial.
