Pope Francis has broken protocol again to invite an old friend up for a ride on his popemobile.
Father Fabian Baez did not have a VIP ticket to the pope's weekly general address in St Peter's Square.
But when Pope Francis spotted the priest, who he knew from his days as archbishop in Buenos Aires, he signalled for his guards to help him over the security barricades, Reuters reported.
The pair embraced, with Pope Francis heard telling Baez "this photo is going to go around the world".
Baez was then invited to hop aboard the popemobile and accompany the pope as he toured through the square.
