A prosecutor probing the 2010 air crash that killed the Polish president shot himself yesterday moments after denying he illegally wiretapped journalists covering the incident.
Mikolaj Przybyl apparently sought to kill himself after asking reporters at a press conference at which he criticised media leaks from his investigation to leave. Last night, he was said to be "stable".
President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and 94 others were killed in April 2010 when their plane crashed over Russia. They were en route to a memorial service for the 1940 Katyn massacre of Polish officers by Soviets.
There have since been claims that Russia downed the plane.
