SRINAGAR, India (AP) Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir say suspected rebels attacked a group of police, killing a senior counterinsurgency officer and wounding three others.
Police officer Ali Mohammed says militants used automatic weapons to spray bullets at the officers in a crowded marketplace in Chadoora town on Monday.
Mohammed says one officer died on the spot, and two constables and a shopkeeper were injured.
Police say the dead officer was a senior counterinsurgency official and worked against anti-India rebels for over a decade.
No rebel group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
