WARSAW, Poland (AP) A doctor says that Poland's last communist leader, Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski, has been hospitalized due to heart problems.
Spokesman for Warsaw's Military Medical Institute, Col. Grzegorz Kade said Tuesday the 90-year-old Jaruzelski was admitted a day earlier with general weakness.
Jaruzelski has been repeatedly hospitalized in recent years with serious health problems including pneumonia and cancer, for which he underwent chemotherapy.
His hospitalization comes three days before the 32nd anniversary of martial law, a repressive military crackdown that he ordered against the Solidarity freedom movement, led by Lech Walesa, in an attempt to crush it. Solidarity prevailed due to massive support and helped in the 1989 ouster of communism from Poland.
Jaruzelski's opponents traditionally mark the anniversary with noisy pickets in front of his Warsaw home.
