WARSAW, Poland (AP) Statistics show that Poland's economy grew by 0.4 percent in the second quarter compared to the first three months of the year and was up 0.8 percent on the same time last year, mainly due to exports.
Economists said that the figures released Friday by the state Main Statistical Office suggest the economy is starting to improve, following a slowdown in 2012. Year-on-year gross domestic product growth in the first quarter was 0.5 percent.
They noted, however, that second-quarter domestic demand fell 1.7 percent, year on year, slowing down imports by 0.6 percent. The country's unemployment rate remains at 13.1 percent.
This year's growth is expected at just over 1 percent, compared to 1.9 percent in 2012 and 4.5 percent in 2011.
