Papua New Guinea's prime minister, Sir Michael Somare, has appealed for calm in the country's police force, after two officers were suspended.
Radio Australia's PNG correspondent, Steve Marshall, said officers were fighting and disarming each other after PNG's acting Police Commissioner suspended the two high-ranking police officers.
One of the officers, Assistant Commissioner Raphael Haufolo, said he was suspended because of his work investigating corruption within the force.
However, the acting police commissioner said the two officers were suspended for insubordination.
Sir Michael said the assistant commissioner's investigations must be respected.
