KEY POINTS:
Almost 300 Jetstar passengers have arrived back in Australia after being stranded for two days in Hawaii.
Their aircraft was grounded after a problem with its fuel gauge at Honolulu Airport.
Jetstar has been criticised for failing to find replacement flights and for poor communication with the passengers.
The company's spokesman Simon Westaway says the airline did what it could to accommodate them.
"People weren't just left stranded, they were given regular updates," he said.
"Clearly we regret what happened but we're a Qantas Group airline, we follow Qantas Group safety standards.
"We had difficulty with the aircraft, it was acknowledged, we got it fixed and the aircraft took passengers into Melbourne this morning."
