A Boeing 707 aircraft was engulfed in flames at the Point Mugu naval air base in Los Angeles, the LA Times reported.
Three people aboard the Navy aircraft were believed to have escaped as it was burning, the Ventura County Fire Department said. It was unclear whether they were injured.
Fire Department spokesman Bill Nash said it was unclear whether the plane was landing or taking off. No other details were immediately available.
Residents near the base have been advised to stay indoors due to intense smoke from the crashed plane, Twitter reports said.
