A committal hearing in Alice Springs has been given conflicting evidence about the extent a New Zealand helicopter pilot was affected by alcohol when a Canadian tourist suffered fatal burns at a Northern Territory farm six years ago.
Edward John Woodhouse (Ned) Lee, of Wellington, faces two charges of causing death while intoxicated, the ABC reported.
The prosecution said he was refuelling a makeshift beer can lamp with aviation fuel when it caught alight.
He is alleged to have thrown or dropped the fluid, which landed on Cynthia Ching, 29, burning 60 per cent of her body.
The prosecution alleges Lee was intoxicated, while the defence says he was in shock.
