KEY POINTS:
A freight train carrying yellow phosphorus derailed in western Ukraine yesterday, causing a fire that produced a giant poison cloud, contaminating the area around 14 villages.
Sixteen people were poisoned, 13 of whom were hospitalised, said the Emergency Situations Ministry.
Of the 11,000 people who live in the contaminated area, 815 were evacuated.
The train, which was travelling from Kazakhstan to Poland, derailed near Lviv on the Polish border.
