SYDNEY - Anzac Day patrons at a Sydney club fought back when they were confronted by masked men wielding a machete, a knife and a hammer during an armed robbery.
Several patrons were injured when four men wearing balaclavas entered the Picnic Point Bowling and Social Club in the city's south-west.
About 50 patrons and staff were in the club when the men demanded cash. Club president Ron McRae said patrons were forced to hand over mobile phones and wallets. "One guy grabbed a chair and I saw a hammer getting swung at him and another guy attacked another one from behind and sort of pushed him to the floor. And then somebody else intervened and got whacked over the wrists."
Three men have been charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm. Police are still seeking a fourth man.
