Passers-by have saved a 5-year-old child brazenly grabbed off a Canberra street in broad daylight and made a citizen's arrest of the alleged abductor.
The child was on a street in Canberra's CBD around 1pm on Saturday with a family member when a male stranger allegedly grabbed the child.
It is alleged the man then ran towards a laneway off Petrie Plaza, in Civic, holding the child. The parent and members of the public chased after the man who, when confronted, let go of the child and dropped a knife.
The citizens then restrained the man before police arrived and arrested him, taking him to the ACT Watch House.
A 26-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday for allegedly unlawfully taking a 5-year-old child in Civic.
