TOKYO (AP) Filmmaker Robert Stone says he hopes viewers of his new film "Pandora's Promise" will think twice about whether atomic power should be abandoned because of Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Stone's answer is no, because he believes nuclear energy can help solve climate change. But he says it was a tough question to face during a recent visit to Fukushima where he saw the results of the March 2011 meltdowns of three nuclear reactors.
Stone says he felt divided, with the rational half of his brain telling him nuclear energy makes sense, while the emotional half warned him of the dangers of radiation and told him to leave the area immediately.
The film was much talked about at the Sundance film festival in June. It opens in Japanese theaters in February.
