Palestinian gunmen ambushed an Israeli car near Jerusalem, seriously wounding a mother and daughter and injuring two other children, hours after Israel dismissed a Palestinian proposal for a permanent ceasefire instead of disarming militant groups.
The attack came near an Israeli roadblock between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. The military said Palestinian gunmen fired on an Israeli car, wounding a 39-year-old mother and three of her children.
The mother and a 9-year-old daughter were rushed to a hospital, while rescue workers treated the other two children at the scene for cuts from broken glass.
The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, affiliated with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, said it was responsible for the shooting.
A Palestinian man was killed while planting an explosive device on a road used by Israeli forces near the West Bank city of Tulkarem.
