Pakistan President Asif Zardari has lifted direct rule in Punjab province and promised to cede more powers to defuse a dangerous political crisis.
In February Zardari summarily removed the main Opposition party from power in Punjab, the biggest province.
He promised to begin transferring key powers, including the power to dismiss parliament, to his Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani.
