A tourist who stopped for a roadside toilet break near Laura in northern Queensland, about 300km northwest of Cairns, cried out in pain after a deadly snake bit him on the penis.
The victim was crouching down with his pants around his ankles when the highly venomous brown snake slithered under and attacked.
Paramedics said the man was lucky to survive.
The snake left a bite mark but is not believed to have injected enough venom to threaten his life.
Emergency staff wrapped the wound but the man was later given the all-clear.
