Five wheelbarrow-loads full of poo was found in a Danish home over-run by more than 200 rats.
An elderly woman in Elsinore, in north Zealand, had been keeping the rats as pets, according to newspaper Helsingor Dagblad.
Local council pest control officer Erik Mansson told the paper he had never seen anything like it in his 40 years on the job. The rats had gnawed through floorboards and built nests in the ground floor and cellar. In the pantry was enough droppings to fill five wheelbarrows.
"We were led to the building when a relative contacted us to help get rid of what he thought were mice. The owner was in hospital with a bad back at the time and when our man arrived at the scene we found rats, not mice," Mansson told Helsingor Dagblad (translated by Politicken.dk).
It took two months to clear the villa, with at least 203 rats caught, poisoned or shot, although pest control believe there may have been up to 250 in the home.
