On the loo-se! Chaos as people flee from out-of-control portable toilets

Being chased down the street by an insubordinate loo isn't your run-of-the-mill horror story.

But such a drama has unfolded in central Moscow, with video footage showing people there fleeing from rampaging portable toilet cubicles.

The blue oblong structures appear to be rapidly skidding along a waterlogged road - while those not in their path stare in amazement.

The incident happened near Moscow's Red Square, the Daily Mail reported.

Journalist Bryan MacDonald posted the video on Twitter, along with a brief explanation of the situation which concluded "this is not a joke".

Other Twitter users were quick to respond to MacDonald's video - some unable to resist making light of the situation.

Matt Veasey wrote: "Headed to Red Square today? Urine for a big surprise, it seems."

Zendgemachtigde was more concerned with saving face: "I would run too... killed by a porta potty as cause of death would look silly on my gravestone."

Storms and rainfall hit Moscow on Monday, when emergency services issued an official warning for residents to take cover - but this only remained in place until the following day.

A deluge of videos and pictures on social media show how the Russian capital's streets turned into deep rivers with cars aquaplaning on the water.

Meanwhile, shocking new footage shows Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport in a waterlogged state following the heavy rainfall.

A video posted on Twitter by Asnezhok shows stationary planes on the tarmac outside the airport's terminal building, while a number of vans and lorries struggle to move through several feet of water.

These latest episodes involving heavy deluge, come only weeks after another bizarre flooding incident in Russia.

In April, the town of Lebedyan, 235 miles south of Moscow, was immersed in 28million litres of tropical soft drinks after the roof of a factory collapsed.

Rivers of colourful fruit juice flowed through the town, but it's not thought there was any damage to local water supplies.
