Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is under increasing pressure to open a full public inquiry into criticism Israel failed in the conflict in Lebanon.
The State Comptrollers Office is to assemble information, documents and protocols on the war, but its findings will be non-binding and lack the political and social weight of a state commission.
On Monday, the entire parliamentary Defence and Foreign Affairs committee, except for the chairman, called for a state commission, Radio Australia's correspondent in Jerusalem, Peter Cave, said.
However, Mr Olmert ridiculed the idea, asking if the country's military commanders were going to be lined up and slapped across the face.
