ANKARA, Turkey (AP) An official says two Japanese tourists have been stabbed in Turkey, one of them fatally.
Mehmet Ceylan, the governor for Nevsehir province, said the attack occurred Monday in Turkey's central Cappadocia region, which is famous for its volcanic rock formations and its centuries-old underground cities.
The region is popular with Japanese tourists.
Ceylan says the motive for the attack was not known and police were searching for the assailant or assailants.
There didn't appear to be any immediate evidence that the attack could have been motivated by the International Olympic Committee's decision over the weekend to choose Tokyo, not Istanbul or Madrid, as host for the 2020 Olympic Games.
