Officer kills himself after communist murders charge

A retired Army officer has committed suicide after being charged over the murders of six communists during Chile's military dictatorship.

German Barriga Munoz was under investigation for human rights violations committed during the 1973-1990 military dictatorship.

In 1976, the six Communist Party leaders disappeared from military custody and are presumed to have been murdered.
