KEY POINTS:
Senator Barack Obama is considering former top Pentagon leaders among his possible running mates, which would address his lack of foreign policy experience and balance the military bonafides of a Republican ticket led by war hero Senator John McCain.
One name reportedly being discussed is retired General James Jones, the former Nato Supreme Allied Commander.
Some of Obama's campaign advisers have been retired general Tony McPeak, who was Air Force chief of staff during Operation Desert Storm; retired major general Scott Gration; and Richard Danzig, who was Navy Secretary under President Bill Clinton.
