SYDNEY - A New Zealand man has pleaded guilty to drink-driving and causing the death of a female pedestrian when his 4WD mounted the kerb in Sydney's Chinatown.
Poasa Logova, 30, of Punchbowl in Sydney's south-west, appeared in Downing Centre District Court today charged with dangerous driving under the influence causing death and dangerous driving under the influence causing grievous bodily harm.
Police have said Logova's Landcruiser 4WD mounted a footpath in Sussex Street on June 23 last year and hit three pedestrians - killing a 35-year-old woman.
Logova's defence lawyer Greg Meakan told Chief Judge Reginald Blanch that a doctor's submission stating Logova fell asleep at the wheel prior to the crash would not be tendered to the court and he would plead guilty.
When the two charges were read separately to Logova, he replied "guilty" but said nothing more.
Chief Justice Blanch set down Logova's sentence date for June 16 and approved the continuation of his conditional bail.
After the proceedings, Logova refused to speak to reporters and uttered an expletive when approached.
