A New Zealand man living in the far west of New South Wales has been charged over an alleged extortion attempt against a neighbour.
A 34-year-old man's flat at Cobar was broken into on August 24 and a number of items were stolen, NSW police said in a statement. Cobar is a town of about 5000 people, 700km northwest of Sydney.
The man allegedly found a letter demanding money in return for the stolen property.
Police searched two other flats in the complex and the property reported stolen was found.
A 51-year-old New Zealander was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, and was expected to appear in the Bourke Local Court.
