SYDNEY - A Rural Fire Service volunteer has been charged with lighting more than 30 fires on the NSW south coast, police say.
The woman, aged 49, was charged on Wednesday following a police investigation into more than 40 fires in national parks and state parks across the Shoalhaven region, between late September and mid-November this year.
The fires were lit at various locations, including Bendalong, Manyana and Cunjurong Point.
"Most of the fires were small, with only one fire resulting in the destruction of property, being a set of timber stairs in a public reserve," police said in a statement.
"No people were injured as a result of any of the fires."
The woman was arrested at her Manyana home before being questioned and charged with 32 counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread.
She was refused bail and is due to face Nowra Local Court on Thursday.
It is unknown what role the woman had with the RFS.
