HELSINKI (AP) Norway's royal palace says Crown Princess Mette-Marit has had successful surgery on her neck to remove a herniated disk.
Palace spokeswoman Marianne Hagen said the Friday operation went according to plan and that the crown princess would remain in the hospital for a few days before returning home for an unspecified period of recuperation.
She says the 40-year-old princess had suffered from neck problems "for years."
Mette-Marit became crown princess of Norway when in 2001 she married the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon. They have two children and she has another child from a previous relationship.
