Police say there is no truth to an "overwhelmed" volunteer's claims that he found two bodies in a house at Goodna.
Police said a young volunteer who claimed to have discovered the bodies of two women inside a house in the suburb of Goodna was receiving help.
"We appeal to people not to spread rumours," a police spokeswoman told AAP.
Ipswich councillor Paul Tully said he was told of the find by the 20-year-old volunteer whom he knew personally.
The volunteer earlier today told AAP he'd discovered the bodies on Sunday night as clean-up crews moved into homes hit by flooding.
The volunteer, 20, provided details about the women's deaths, claiming one was crushed by a beam that had fallen from the ceiling while another was found dead on the floor beside a bed.
Police said the house was checked twice by SES and fire crews before volunteers were allowed inside.
"We have spoken to the hospital - there are no bodies deposited there. There are no dead bodies in that house,"the spokeswoman said.
Cr Tully said the volunteer had told the same story to a number of people, including media outlets.
"People are being stressed by the circumstances," Mr Tully told AAP.
"He's probably overwhelmed by the enormity of the disaster.
"He's been working non-stop on flood relief for almost a week."
Police confirmed the death toll remained at 20.
