KEY POINTS:
Fiji's interim prime minister Frank Bainimarama has insisted relations between his country and New Zealand are intact.
Cdre Bainimarama, who appointed himself prime minister after overthrowing the elected government in December, said the amicable relationship with New Zealand would continue.
Fiji only had a problem with New Zealand High Commissioner Michael Green, "given his persistent interference in Fiji's domestic affairs," he said.
Mr Green's expulsion was justified because he had "stepped out of line despite repeated warnings", he said.
Prime Minister Helen Clark has described Mr Green's expulsion as an "absolute disgrace."
The PM said New Zealand would further distance itself from Fiji.
The government on Thursday updated its travel warning for Fiji, with Helen Clark saying she was increasingly concerned for New Zealanders' safety there.
Cdre Bainimarama denied there was any more risk for New Zealanders.
"Fiji continues to remain a safe, peaceful and attractive tourist and investment destination for all our markets, including New Zealand," he said.
Mr Green is to fly out of Fiji in the "next few days" said a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade this morning.
