BEIJING - Nine workers were still trapped in a collapsed railway tunnel in central China late on Sunday local time after rescuers found three workers alive, the Xinhua news agency said.
The tunnel being built in Hubei province collapsed on Sunday, initially trapping 12 of the 52 people working in it, Xinhua said.
Rescue workers were pumping water out of the tunnel as they continued their search, but silt and mud were blocking parts where the missing workers could be trapped, Xinhua quoted a manager with the company building the tunnel as saying.
Xinhua earlier quoted rescue officials as saying they had been in touch with the trapped workers and that they faced no imminent danger.
