ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) Nigeria's government says the president has fired nine ministers in the biggest shake-up of the Cabinet during his more than two-year presidency.
Information Minister Labaran Maku said Wednesday that President Goodluck Jonathan made the changes to "refocus his government, to inject in fresh blood to achieve greater service delivery to the people of Nigeria."
No replacements have been named yet.
The changes come amid serious divisions within the ruling People's Democratic Party. Nearly two weeks ago former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and seven governors formed a coalition within the party, calling themselves the new PDP.
These political maneuverings come as the parties prepare for elections in 2015.
