NIAMEY - At least 11 people were killed and 12 injured during three days of clashes between nomadic herdsmen and farmers in the south of Niger, state radio said on Sunday.
It said the fighting started on Thursday in the Dosso region about 140km southeast of the capital Niamey when a group of farmers attacked a camp of herdsmen.
The security forces in the landlocked West African country intervened and arrested 33 people, the radio said.
Competition between farmers and herdsmen for scare resources in arid Niger, one of the poorest countries in the world, has led to fighting in the past. More than 100 people died in the bloodiest clash in October 1991.
