KEY POINTS:
The body of a newborn baby boy has been found among rubbish at a tip in Sydney's southwest.
Police have appealed for public help to find the baby's mother.
Police were called to the waste management depot on Richardson Road at Spring Farm, near Narellan, at about 10.30am (AEDT) on Wednesday after the infant's body was found.
The body was reportedly discovered by workers at the site after a garbage truck was unloaded.
"Upon arrival police located the body of what appears to be a newborn boy among the refuse," police said in a statement.
Investigators have appealed for public help to find the baby's family.
"Police would particularly like the infant's mother to come forward as they hold concerns for her welfare," police said.
Investigators are trying to identify the origins of the refuse found with the baby and believe it may have come from the Campbelltown, Catherine Field and Bringelly areas.
