KEY POINTS:
Police want a Melbourne mother to come forward after her newborn baby was found abandoned outside a suburban hospital. The baby girl was wrapped in towels and placed in a cardboard box outside Dandenong Hospital yesterday.
The hospital's head of paediatrics, Cathy McAdam, said it was unknown how long the baby had been outside but she was "blue and cold" and suffering from hypothermia.
Police believed the mother was a local person but a lack of security footage gave officers few leads.
