KEY POINTS:
Officials took the wrapper off New York's new official condom today.
The city plans to give away 26 million of them in black packaging reading "NYC Condom", with each letter in a coloured circle in the style of the subway line logos.
The plan could help cut sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
The city is spending US$720,000 ($1.05 million) on condoms this year.
