A suspected case of foot and mouth was found in Britain last night.
Reports on Sky News and the BBC said the suspected disease was found at a farm 48km from where an outbreak in August led to mass culls of cattle stock.
Officials had set up a 5km exclusion zone around the affected area in Surrey.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown was to chair an emergency meeting of senior officials.
