The Israeli military is to buy a new range of fighting vehicles that use wheels instead of tracks as it looks to boost the manoeuvrability of its troops, particularly in the urbanised West Bank and Gaza Strip.
It has decided to buy 500 American-made Stryker LAV-3 armoured personnel carriers for its infantry troops.
An Israeli military official said the Army was also set to equip its special forces with an armoured version of the US-made Humvee.
The 500 Strykers, valued at US$750 million ($1.27 billion), will be paid for by America.
