Special forces soldiers have been deployed to find a Scottish aid worker kidnapped in Afghanistan who it is feared will be smuggled across the Pakistan border.
Nato troops began hunting for the woman after deciding negotiations through tribal channels might take too long, Afghan police said.
There were hopes a successful release could be achieved within 24 hours.
The woman was taken with three Afghan colleagues in eastern Kunar province.
The 36-year-old is employed by an American aid contracting company.
