Military-ruled Myanmar has freed student activist Ko Zaw Min, 14 years after he was jailed for protesting against the detention of democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, friends said. Zaw Min, 42, suffered from heart problems but was otherwise in good health, they said.
A prominent member of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions, he was arrested on December 11, 1991, in connection with protests in Yangon calling for the release of Suu Kyi and other political prisoners.
The junta has released about 14,000 prisoners since November but only about 80 were political prisoners.
